Retail Now: why retailers need to step up their game
On Monday, Tesco announced its partnership with Quiqup, the London-based logistics firm, and rolled out its latest service – Tesco Now. Customers with the app can order up to twenty items from a Tesco store and for a fee of £7.99 or £5.99, the items will be delivered to their Central London location within the next hour or two, respectively. These are a step up from the store’s current offering of either same day delivery or click & collect.
Many claim that Tesco’s decision to roll out its latest venture is in no small part due to Amazon’s purchase of Wholefoods and the impact the commerce giant is having within the market. Regardless of the motivating factor, it is clear that retail businesses all have to improve their digital delivery game. The rise of delivery platforms and logistic companies such as Uber Eats, Deliveroo, Postmates, Stich Fix and the aforementioned Quiqup, means that retailers with online shopping services are going to have to continue to adapt and improve their offering to maintain their competitive edge.
With our lives being so busy, time is a precious commodity. The advancements in technology have led to us relying on apps and mobile services, in our convenience based society, more than ever before. Companies are quickly realising that to come out on top they need to provide an optimum service and that speed is a key part of this.
So how is this impacting recruitment?
We have seen an increase in digital and e-commerce teams in recent years and this trend isn’t slowing down. Businesses that don’t have strong digital functions in place are now looking to create or build upon these teams and so there has been a recent surge in the need for digital finance partners. This is something that will continue to be a need as digital disruption advances.
We are also thrilled to announce that Conor Broderick has recently joined the Communicate team as our new consultant focusing on permanent recruitment within the retail sector.
